Are electronic signatures legally valid?

Yes. Under the Electronic Communications Act 2000 and retained eIDAS regulation, electronic signatures are legally valid in England and Wales for assured shorthold tenancy agreements and most landlord documents. What matters is the evidence behind the signature — who signed, what they signed, and when. TenancyVault records signer identity (verified by email), a cryptographic fingerprint of the exact document, explicit consent, and timestamps with IP addresses, all bundled into a signature certificate appended to the signed PDF.

Note: documents that must be executed as a deed — such as leases over three years — require witnessed signatures and are not suitable for electronic signing.

Available on Solo and above

E-signatures are included from the Solo plan with no per-document fees — sign as many documents as you need. Compare that to standalone e-signing tools charging per envelope.
