Connect Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot to TenancyVault

At a glance

  • Connect TenancyVault to Claude, ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot and ask questions in plain English
  • Access is read-only by default, scoped to what you allow, and revocable at any time
  • There is nothing to copy when you use the “Connect” flow — you approve access on a TenancyVault screen
  • TenancyVault does not run its own AI model, so there are no extra AI costs
  • Included on every plan, including Free

TenancyVault can connect to the AI assistants you already use — Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot and other Model Context Protocol (MCP) clients — so you can ask about your portfolio in plain English. “Which properties need attention this month?” “Find the latest EICR for 14 King Street.” “What’s missing before this tenancy starts?” This guide walks through connecting each assistant. Reviewed June 2026.

How it works

Your AI assistant does the language work; TenancyVault exposes a secure, read-only adapter (an MCP server) that the assistant calls for your data. Because TenancyVault doesn’t run its own AI model, there are no extra AI token costs — and your data stays in TenancyVault.

Every connection is read-only by default, scoped to exactly what you allow, expiring, and revocable at any time from Settings → AI Connections. The assistant can also prepare drafts (such as a compliance pack), but anything official — sending a tenant message, sharing a document, submitting to HMRC — always requires you to confirm it inside TenancyVault.

Before you start

  1. Sign in to TenancyVault and open Settings → AI Connections.
  2. You’ll see your connection address there (it ends in /mcp). Most assistants only need this address — you approve access on a TenancyVault screen, so there’s no token to copy.
  3. Decide what to allow. The safe defaults are portfolio, properties and compliance (all read-only). You can also restrict a connection to specific properties.

Connect Claude

Available on Claude Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise.

  1. In Claude, open Settings → Connectors.
  2. Choose Add custom connector.
  3. Paste your TenancyVault connection address and continue.
  4. Claude sends you to TenancyVault to approve access — review the permissions and choose Allow.
  5. Done. The connection appears under Connected apps in Settings → AI Connections, where you can revoke it anytime.

On Team or Enterprise, an owner adds the connector once, then members connect individually.

Connect ChatGPT

Custom MCP connectors are a beta for Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces (not personal Free or Plus accounts yet).

  1. An admin enables Developer mode in the workspace connector settings.
  2. Go to Settings → Connectors → Create.
  3. Enter your TenancyVault connection address.
  4. Approve the requested read access on the TenancyVault consent screen.

Connect Microsoft Copilot

Microsoft 365 Copilot connects through Copilot Studio (a maker/admin task, not an in-chat setting).

  1. In Copilot Studio, open or create an agent.
  2. Choose Add an action → connect to an MCP server.
  3. Enter your TenancyVault connection address and grant least-privilege read scopes (start with portfolio and compliance).

Developer tools (Cursor, automations)

For coding tools like Cursor, or automation platforms such as Zapier, Make and n8n, create a personal access token in Settings → AI Connections → Personal tokens and add the server manually — for example in an mcp.json with an Authorization: Bearer <token> header. Treat tokens like passwords: they’re scoped, expiring and revocable.

What you can ask

  • “Which properties need attention this month?”
  • “What compliance documents are missing for this tenancy?”
  • “Find the latest gas safety certificate for 14 King Street.”
  • “Which tenants haven’t acknowledged their shared documents?”
  • “Am I ready for my next Making Tax Digital update?” (requires an MTD-enabled plan and two-factor authentication)

Staying in control

  • Revoke instantly — remove any connection from Settings → AI Connections and it stops working on the next request.
  • See everything — every AI request is logged in your account’s activity.
  • Minimum data — document storage keys, raw file contents, tenant dates of birth and phone numbers, and HMRC tokens are never exposed.
  • Public reachability — cloud assistants connect from their own servers, so your TenancyVault must be reachable over the internet (it is, when you use the hosted app).

You can read more about the security model on the AI Connections page.
